Once the domain registration process is completed, website owners can focus their attention on running the website and marketing its products or services. In certain situations, you may not be satisfied with the current web hosting company. There are several reasons for transferring web site to a new host as explained below:

Website Up gradation
With success of a website you may need to host the website on better servers with more resources. It could also be possible that certain new features that you want to incorporate in your website are not supported by your current web hosting company. At this junction, you may think of changing to a new web hosting comoany.

Dissatisfaction
The most common reason for web host change is dissatisfaction with the current service provider. If you can get the same or better services from another company, it is best to transfer your website.

Whatever the reason for your decision to transfer a domain, the steps of the shifting process need to be undertaken carefully.

  • Download all the files from your old web host and transfer them to your personal computer. This will ensure that the entire site is downloaded. A copy of your files can be kept on the old host to avoid downtime for your site.
  • A new web hosting account has to be opened before DNS change.
  • Recorded by your domain name registrar, the DNS information has to be changed on the current domain name to new hosting servers. A period of 24-72 hours is needed for the domain to propagate online.
  • Once it appears on the new hosting servers, all files must be uploaded on them.
  • Test your website and make amendments where needed. All files must be uploaded from the computer to keep the site running like before.
  • When the domain transfer is completed, cancel the previous hosting account.
